Scope of Work:  R&J Insulation was once again approached by Bath Crashers to participate in the remodeling of an older home in St. Paul, MN in just three days. On day one, the plaster, sheetrock, and flooring was removed. With the old fixtures still in working condition, Matt Muenster called Habitat for Humanity and donated the fixtures for their use in remodels. We quickly moved in to install sprayed polyurethane foam on the slanted ceilings and walls then installed blanket insulation and vapor retarder on the flat ceiling. Once we were done, the walls and ceilings were covered with sheetrock and the wood floors installed. The outcome was a beautiful “Arts and Crafts Bathroom” with protection from cold weather, where it previously lacked.

Scope of Work:  A neighborhood based senior housing campus specializing in assisted living, hospice and now the Memory Care Building addition of a 16,000 square foot building.  R&J Insulation installed the thermal and sound attenuation insulation as well as vapor retarder and venting.

Scope of Work: This Independent Living Senior Apartment building has 98,000 square feet with 70-units consisting of three stories of living space with underground parking.  As R&J Insulation installed the thermal and sound attenuation insulation, close attention was given to the schedule to meet critical deadlines.

Scope of Work: R&J Insulation was approached by Bath Crashers to participate in the remodeling of a 100 year old farmhouse bathroom in Eden Prairie, MN.  The bathroom was in its’ original state with all the old amenities and fixtures.  To make the bathroom larger, Matt Muenster demolished the walls of two closets with slanted ceilings on both sides of the bathroom in order to double the floor space.  In true Bath Crashers fashion, the homeowners were promised completion in 3 days.  On day 1, once the plaster and lathe were removed from the exterior walls and ceiling, R&J installed CertainTeed R-49 fiberglass batt insulation and vapor barrier at the ceiling rafters, 3 ½” of BASF spray foam at the slanted ceilings, and 3” of BASF spray foam at the  exterior walls. It was an exciting atmosphere to work in as the homeowners and crew were enthusiastic about the remodel.  Since the completion of the Eden Prairie Farmhouse R&J has completed another home in St. Paul, MN with Bath Crashers.

Scope of Work: Approximately 39,000 board feet of closed-cell polyurethane foam was sprayed in all ceilings, exterior walls of the home and porch as well as the porch floor.  The polyurethane foam was an excellent choice of the homeowner since there were areas such as shallow framed sloped ceilings where you need exceptional insulating and vapor barrier qualities that fiberglass batt and poly would not have provided.  To maximize living space a small energy heel was constructed where spray foam added the R-values needed for energy savings.  Not only did the polyurethane foam add to the energy savings of this home, it added structural integrity as well.

Scope of Work: Hilton Homewood Suites offers studio, one and/or two bedroom suites feature separate living and sleeping areas as well as a fully equipped kitchen.  The walls were insulated with an R-19 fiberglass batt and 6 mil vapor barrier.  For sound attenuation purposes, we installed 3 ½” of fiberglass batt in the corridor walls and full depth insulation at the bathroom walls.  The ceiling of the Lodge was constructed with a vault where we installed a fiberglass batt with an R-value of 30, also covered with 6 mil vapor barrier.  The rest of the attic, approximately 24,000 square feet, was insulated with fiberglass blown insulation with an R-value of R-30.

Scope of Work:  Exterior shell and vapor barrier

R&J Insulation recently completed installation of exterior shell and vapor barriers in the Select Senior Living facility in Coon Rapids.  The building construction included three floors plus a basement, consisting of 44 units in two separate buildings.  Our project team leant its expertise to solve unforeseen problems with the original insulation plan; ensuring the project remained on schedule despite the design challenges.

Scope of work: Trail's Edge Townhome Project consists of forty-eight unit townhome development for seniors.  The fourty-eight units will be split into four and six unit buildings.  This breaks down to six, four-unit buildings and four, six-unit buildings including a Community Center.

R&J Insulation, Inc. was selected to install blanket and blown insulation in the exterior shell of each building as well as sound attenuation insulation between units. 

Project Type: Residential, Senior Housing Projects, New Construction

Scope of work: R&J Insulation, Inc. was selected to supply and install insulation for the Kingsway Retirement Living Project in Belle Plaine, Minnesota.  The project consisted of a new 81 unit assisted and independent living center for the Lutheran Homes Association. 

Exterior walls and ceilings were insulated for thermal purposes while interior walls were insulated for sound attenuation.  The ceiling/floor assemblies were blown full with fiberglass insulation for sound attenuation and draft stopping. 

The project was completed on schedule in only four months.  R&J supplied and installed over 39,000 square feet of thermal batt insulation, over 69,000 square feet of interior insulation, and over 105,000 square feet of blown fiberglass insulation. We are proud to say this is R&J's largest project to date.

Project Type: Residential, Single family and Multifamily Dwellings, New Construction

Scope of work:  A typical project might be a new home or apartment/condo building. These are typically wood-framed construction. Multiple factors need to be addressed in these types of projects:

• We install blanket insulation in exterior walls and blown insulation in attics to minimize heat transfer and conserve energy.
• We install a polyethylene film vapor barrier on the warm side of exterior walls and ceilings to control moisture and air from transferring through the walls or ceiling.
• We install either blanket or spray polyurethane foam at the exterior rim joist areas.
• In multi-family units, we blow insulation between floors and install blanket insulation in the interior walls to minimize sound transfer between floors and units.
• We install vent chutes and blocking in the attics to allow for proper venting of moisture.
• At the request of the customer, we are happy to perform a complete spray foam installation. This upgrade provides better thermal properties, less heat transfer, structural stability, and better energy conservation.

Project Type: Residential, Single family and Multifamily Dwellings, Existing Construction

Scope of work:When we are asked to retrofit the exterior walls of an existing home or multi-family dwelling, we will do a sidewall blown insulation application, using a dense-pack method.  Holes are drilled in every wall cavity from either the inside or the outside of the home, and cellulose insulation is blown in.  We also bring existing attics up to code, installing proper ventilation and blocking, sealing bypasses, and blowing in additional insulation.

Scope of work:In a land fill, the methane gas generated underground is piped to riser vaults, which pull the methane out of the landfill.  These vaults contain important technical equipment that needs to be protected from Minnesota’s elements.  We insulated the interior of the vaults with closed-cell sprayed polyurethane foam.

Project Type: Commercial, Water Treatment Plant, New Construction

Scope of work:This water treatment plant has a pre-cast cement ceiling, with a pitched wooden truss system over it to keep water and snow off.  We installed 6 mil. polyethylene sheathing on top of the pre-cast roof under the trusses as a vapor barrier and installed vent chutes and blockers.  We then blew fiberglass insulation over the vapor barrier to prevent heat loss and conserve energy.
